Smithland Elementary SchoolSmithland Elementary serves Kindergarten through 4th grade students. Under the direction of Principal Mr. Painter and Assistant Principal Mr. Miller, the school faculty is comprised of talented and dedicated educators. These teachers act as excellent models for ROTE members.
With a large variety of after-school enrichment programs provided to students, the education provided at Smithland extends much further than traditional classroom experiences. After school events and activities help to foster a community within the school. One unique feature of Smithland Elementary is their Dual Language program. Students have the opportunity to learn content in both Spanish and English every day Kindergarten through 4th grade. The program is made up of native English and native Spanish speakers. As future teachers, having experience with Spanish curriculum is invaluable to ROTE members. Skyline Middle SchoolLed by Principal Mr. Glick and Assistant Principal Ms. Long, Skyline Middle serves 5th grade through 8th grade students. ROTE works with Ms. Long to coordinate placements and events.
Skyline Middle School is a great place for JMU ROTE members to gain hands on experiences working with content specific teachers. Different content areas necessitate more specialized teaching strategies and instructional methods. Placements in this school help Education students to recognize and practice a variety of teaching strategies. Skyline Middle also has various after-school sports for students to partake in. ROTE members are encouraged to attend games and practices to become more involved with students.
